The Wiyot people, on Humboldt Bay, have regained access to the island that is the center of their spiritual and cultural world. They are now preparing for the first sacred ceremony to be held there since 1860, when a terrible massacre took place on Indian Island. The Wiyot culture has been destroyed, but they are dreaming it back to life.  |
