The ancient practice of rock stacking is experiencing a modest revival along some of California's rocky shorelines. Galleries of rock art have appeared on the San Diego city breakwater, Dana Strand beach in Orange County, on Venice Beach, along the San Francisco Bay shoreline, and on rock-lined river banks here and there.

Robert Sommer, professor of psychology at the University of California Davis, has previously written for Coast & Ocean about driftwood art.
