The California
State Coastal Conservancy is leading the implementation of
the San Francisco Bay Area Water Trail (Water Trail),
a new regional project that is still in development.
A draft San Francisco Bay Area Water Trail Plan (Water
Trail Plan) for the trail has been developed by the
Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) in
cooperation with the Conservancy and other public agencies
and organizations. The Conservancy is currently leading
the programmatic environmental review process for the
Water Trail Plan.
The Water Trail will be a network of
access sites (or "trailheads") that will enable
people in small non-motorized boats, such as kayaks,
canoes, sailboats and dragon boats, to safely enjoy
single and mulitple day trips in San Francisco Bay.
This regional trail has the potential to enhance Bay
Area communities' connections to the Bay and create
new linkages to existing shoreline open space and other
regional trails. The Water Trail will also include educational,
stewardship, and outreach components.

The Notice of Availability for
this Draft EIR provides information about the public
review period, date and time of the public hearing,
where to find a printed copy of the Draft EIR, and
how and where to send written comments.
- The
Draft Water Trail Plan & Maps
depicting potential trailheads
are also available for downloading and review. The
maps are part of the Plan (Figures 8.1.a. - 8.1.g),
but are presented separately to facilitate downloading.
This plan has been sent to the legislature for review,
consistent with requirements of Assembly Bill 1296,
the Water Trail Act (included in the appendices of
the Plan). The final Plan may differ from the draft
Plan as a consequence of the environmental review
or legislative comment.
